It all began in a small church building on the corner of Pacific Street and Garrison Avenue in Charleston, West Virginia. At the time, it was known as Edgewood Community Church. As the congregation grew, the little church could no longer accommodate everyone, and the search began for a new place to worship.
In January 1972, Bill Stanley was chosen by the membership to become the pastor. He faithfully led the church for 23 years. Through hard work, dedication, and generous donations of both time and money, the congregation acquired property at the current location. A new building was constructed, and the church continued to grow.
With this new beginning, the congregation renamed the church God’s Tabernacle. The first service in the new building was held on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1974. Over the years, many members came and went, but God has always remained.
In 2010, the church name was expanded to God’s Tabernacle of Praise, and Lee Darnell was selected as the pastor. Pastor Lee continues to serve faithfully, teaching God’s Word and shepherding the congregation.
Today, the church is simply known as The Tabernacle—God’s House. It is a place where we gather to praise, worship, and thank God for everything He has done to bring us this far—and for all that He will do in the future.
